I was just getting into roller hockey when I bought these in the hope of saving my tailbone a bit from the trials of relearning how to skate. In that, these pads do an ok job. They don't absorb as much of the impact as I'd like from both falling and blocking shots, but they do help a little. The built in cup is also appreciated - 1 fewer thing to keep track of and put on/take off for each game. I think the biggest plus to these is that, although the label says hand-wash only, I have been washing them in a hand-wash/gentle cycle in my washing machine and hang drying after every match and they're holding up just fine (and don't smell as a result).
I would recommend these for beginners and people who aren't planning on playing too often and so, don't want to drop too much on something that might only get occasional use. I'll probably upgrade at some point, but I'm also not in a hurry since they've served me well so far over the course of 2 months playing twice a week.
